Godspeed Opera House History
Since 1963, the Godspeed Opera House in CT has produced professional musical theater in a historic building on the banks of the Connecticut River in East Haddam. At first, their goal was to use rarely produced musicals and breathe new life into them on their own stage. They also added to their repertoire by discovering and nurturing promising new musicals presented at both the Opera House and the Norma Terris Theatre in neighboring Chester.
Since opening their doors, Godspeed Opera House has produced over 250 musicals, 70 world premieres, and even exported 21 productions to Broadway in New York City. It is the first regional theater in America to earn two Tony awards, including the 1980 award for “Outstanding Contributions to the American Musical.”
